  • Finding Peace in the Panic: A Gentle Guide Through Trauma and Grief

    Jul 31, 2026

Sometimes life breaks open in terrifying ways. A single week can bring unimaginable stress: a sudden health crisis, an unexpected loss, or seeing a child or loved one suffer a severe injury.

When events like this happen, the panic sets in. You feel entirely out of control. Many cultures and traditions teach that faith requires stoicism, expecting you to hide your pain, dry your tears, and put on a brave face. The final revelation offers a completely different approach. It provides an existential lifeline for when you are terrified, exhausted, and hurting.

    Human Grief is Valid

We are often told that strong believers do not show negative emotion. However, looking at the prophets reveals a very human reality. When Prophet Jacob lost his son, his grief lasted for years. The physical and mental toll was so severe that he lost his sight from weeping. When his family told him to stop grieving and move on, he did not hide his pain or act as if it did not hurt.

“I only complain of my suffering and my grief to God, and I know from God that which you do not know.”

This acknowledges that grieving deeply for a loss or tragedy is not a lack of faith. It validates pouring out immense emotional sorrow directly to the Creator rather than suppressing it.

    Speak in Raw, Unfiltered Words

Do not worry about formal, robotic religious rituals right now. You are traumatized and you need an anchor. Call out to God exactly as you are. Tell Him you are broken. Tell Him you cannot unsee the terrifying images of what happened, and that the panic of the situation is haunting you.

You are in good company. When Prophet Job reached his absolute breaking point after losing his health and his family, he did not use a complicated formula. He cried out in raw pain:

“Suffering has truly afflicted me, but you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.”

The Almighty answered him and removed his suffering. Ask the Creator to lift the trauma from your mind, to heal the loved ones who are hurting, and to replace your crippling anxiety with His divine tranquility.

    Releasing the Burden of Control

You feel broken because you feel responsible for what happens to the people you love. The Sovereign lifts this crushing psychological weight off your shoulders by explaining that the script of these worldly events was written before you even arrived. This is precisely so you do not destroy yourself with guilt or endless scenarios of what you could have done differently.

“No misfortune can happen, either in the earth or in yourselves, that was not set down in writing before We brought it into being, that is easy for God, so you need not grieve for what you miss.”

    The Limits of Human Vision

When terrifying, inexplicable things happen, we demand to know why. God explains that our human perspective is simply too small to see the entire picture. We only see the immediate pain, but the King of the cosmos sees the ultimate outcome.

“You may dislike something although it is good for you, or like something although it is bad for you: God knows and you do not.”

To help us understand this, Chapter 18 tells the story of Moses traveling with a highly knowledgeable man. The man does things that seem disastrous and cruel in the moment, such as deliberately damaging a boat belonging to a poor family. Moses is horrified and cannot bear it. But the hidden reality is later revealed: a tyrant king was coming behind them seizing all intact boats by force. By damaging the boat, he actually saved the family's livelihood.

“I did not do these things of my own accord: these are the explanations for those things you could not bear with patience.”

The Almighty is showing us that behind events that seem traumatic to our human eyes, there is a protective divine mercy operating just beyond our sight.

Finding Peace for an Exhausted Mind

God does not want you to be perfectly composed. He wants your brokenness. He reminds you that He is the only one who can lift this specific trauma from your chest, asking:

“Who is it that answers the distressed when they call upon Him? Who removes their suffering?”

When the trauma keeps replaying in your mind, The Sovereign offers the only true remedy for an exhausted nervous system:

“...those who have faith and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of God, truly it is in the remembrance of God that hearts find peace.”
